For now, WhatsApp recently rolled out offline WhatsApp support, meaning you can access your messages even if your phone is turned off or disconnected from wifi. WhatsApp may add multi-phone support in an upcoming update so that you can access messages on both your personal and work phones. Just four active devices are allowed per account, and when it comes to phones, WhatsApp can only be used one at a time.

Similar to Signal, WhatsApp has strict limits on device connections. And if you switch between iOS and Android, WhatsApp recently added the option to move your chat history across platforms. There's also a Web client that will appease Chrome OS users. The app is available for Android, iOS, PC, and Mac. WhatsApp is pretty similar to Signal on the availability front, though it does have a notable edge. Furthermore, you can only be logged in to Signal on one phone at a time. You can log into your Signal account on multiple devices, though there is a limit of five device connections per account. Notably, there are no apps for Web or Chrome.

However, you can download the Signal app on Android, iOS, Mac, Windows, and PC. When it comes to availability, Signal is the weakest of the bunch.

So even if you have multiple phones and computers, you can log into your Telegram account on all of them and have it work without a hitch. This is what has been communicated to the tech companies as well. One of the best things about Telegram is that there isn't a limit on how many devices you can log into at once. The govt wants to ensure that each and every citizen on the platform is safe from any harm or cyber fraud. Hundreds of millions of users in India use platforms such as WhatsApp every day to communicate formally and informally. The DoT (Department of Telecommunications) is going to add back the clause which requires the govt to seek reconsideration from TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) over matters where TRAI's recommendations were rejected along with a proper explanation for the rejection. The regulations are made with the perspective of user safety.įurther, the concerns around the dilution of the power of the sector regulator are no more there. Telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had said that the new telecom draft bill 2022 focuses on two things - a) regulations and b) protection of the consumers. However, according to a Livemint report, the OTT communication players will still need to keep the protection of their users in India a priority.Īs per a report from the publication, the government and the concerned companies have reached a consensus that user protection must be prioritised. This comes as a positive development for companies such as Telegram, WhatsApp and Signal. The Indian govt might not bring the OTT communication apps under regulation after all.
